  • The Eugene Woodworth Memorial Art and Author Show

    sponsored by AARP

SAGE Metro Portland is hosting a fabulous LGBT Art and Author Show in honor of Eugene Woodworth at this year’s Gay & Grey PDX Expo!

LGBT artists from a variety of mediums will sell their works, with a portion of the proceeds going to support SAGE Metro Portland. Come to enjoy the collection of paintings, ceramics, writings and more, or purchase a piece of art to support the work that SAGE Metro Portland does in the LGBT community.

Eugene Woodworth was a longtime volunteer with SAGE Metro Portland as well as a multitalented artist.  In his 20s, Eugene was a professional dancer and later taught and coached dance. In the 1950s he moved to Portland with his partner, Eric Marcoux, and both studied at the Portland Museum Art School where he was trained as a visual artist. Later, employment took him into electronics and his relationship with Eric into activism as a gay man. Here at Friendly House Eugene was a member of the SAGE Speakers Bureau for many years. On panels his words were beautifully crafted and inspiring. Posthumously, Eric found a trove of poems by Eugene which revealed yet another one of his talents.

We honor Eugene as an artist, SAGE volunteer, friend, and gentle, yet passionate, spokesman for LGBT seniors.

Reception will be held following the Gay & Grey Expo

The reception will feature refreshments, an introduction from Eric Marcoux, Eugene Woodworth’s husband, and a reading from Judith Barrington, award winning poet, memoirist and creative writing teacher.

5-7 pm on October 11th at Friendly House

A selection of the pieces will be displayed at Friendly House for the month of October. Special thanks to AARP for sponsoring this show.
